Under 12s beat Leicester Riders
- Updated: 18th December 2016
The Warriors Under 12 squad ensured a clean sweep at all youth ages against local rivals Leicester Riders this season, with a victory today at Gateway college.
In a strongly contested game between two sets of determined young boys, the Warriors came out on top with a 45-38 victory in this local derby.
The bigger Riders squad were put under constant pressure from the start with an energetic full court press from the Warriors. Early turnovers and some good fast break play allowed guards Javen and Niall some early points with well taken layups.
Riders were never out of it and looked to use the size and power of their big man inside the paint. Hard work and good rebounding from Bayley and Elijah ensured he didn’t get his own way.
The Warriors maintained a slim lead throughout the game and continued pressure from the press allowed lay up opportunities for the Warriors, with young guard Robbie showing his potential with 6pts. It was a 5pt game going into the 4th Quarter, but Warriors continued the good defence and extended the lead to 7 by the end of the game.
Coach Brett Collins said “It was an encouraging performance all round with 7 of the 12 players all still under 11 or younger. An exceptional performance by Javen who ended up with a personal tally of 18pts, supported by the whole squad who hustled hard throughout the 40mins.”
