u14s, u16s and u18s – Playoffs!

playoff trophy

Congratulations to the U14s Boys team, U16s Girls team and the Under 18s Boys team who are all through to the 1st round of the Basketball England National League playoffs.

The Under 18s coached by Coach Bilaal Kazi-Andrews finished 2nd in the U18s Midlands League, winning 16 out of their 21 games.

Coach Bilaal said ‘Great start for the under 18s, winning all their games before Christmas. In the 2nd half of the season we did not do as well losing 5 games but despite all of that we still managed to make the play-offs coming 2nd in the league. In the playoffs we are away to Brentwood Fire and hopefully we can win this game and move on to the next round. Good luck to all the Warriors teams in the playoffs. ‘

The Under 16s girls, coached by Coach Reuben Walker finished 3rd in the league winning 6 and losing 4 games, behind Lancashire Spinners and Tameside Royals.

Coach Reuben said ‘u16 girls have had a really good season, we were strengthened by the u14s that came up which helped make us a more complete team. We have size, speed, shooters and when we are on our day we are a hard team to beat. We started the season 3-0 but with the lack of teams and matches it was hard to get consistency in our play. Mystics is a great basketball team and we are looking forward to facing them. We go into the team with no fear and it will be a great experience for the squad as we continue to grow our girls programme.’

And finally the u14s finished top of the league Midlands I League beating teams like Mansfield Giants, Leicester Riders, Derby Trailblazers and Leicester Dynamite.

Coach Arbham Giga said ‘The u14s have had a good season and all players have showed a huge improvement from the first game to the last. I have been impressed with how everyone has stepped up and worked hard this year. All the players are really looking forward to the playoff and knows this is where it will count. A great job winning the league and making the playoffs.’
