Leicester Warriors Primary Girls Basketball Tournament 2019
- Updated: 28th March 2019
On Friday 22nd March, over 100 girls from primary schools across the city and county participated in the annual Leicester Warriors Primary Girls Basketball Tournament.
This tournament – now in its 4th year – is the only girls-only primary basketball tournament in Leicester and Leicestershire and provides schools with a great chance to get more girls involved in competitive basketball. The teams involved were Rowlatts Hill, Hope Hamilton Green, Krishna Avanti, Kestrels’ Field. St Bartholomew’s, Hope Hamilton Red, and Kibworth,
The tournament began with 2 groups of 4 teams who played in a round-robin format. There were then play-offs, semi-finals and a final to determine overall positions, with Hope Hamilton C of E Primary School winning an exciting final game against Marriott Primary School 13-7 to be crowded our 2019 champions.
All of the girls demonstrated amazing spirit, team-work and sportsmanship throughout and some individual players were also recognised. Well done to Flora from St Bartholomew’s for winning our Sportsmanship Award and to Aja from Marriott for winning our Tournament MVP.
Coach Reuben J Walker said “It is great to so many kids getting involved in basketball, we have increased our girls basketball sessions in Leicester recently, and it is all about having fun, making friends and keeping healthy”.
For girls wanting to play more basketball out of school, why not come and try one of our Girls Community Basketball Sessions?
Every Saturday morning at Gateway College 10:00-11:30, only £3, every welcome!
